I keep trying to get my boys to just pick from the costumes we already have, but I made the mistake of showing Preston a video of a transforming transformer costume. I knew better. Of course that's what he wanted to be. Luckily I enjoy doing that kind of creative stuff. I found a guy online who shared a little bit of how he made his and got to work. I made a prototype out of cardboard, and then the final product out of foam-core board.
Spencer's was easy enough. The Black Night, from the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"
I haven't dressed up since Michael was kid and I decided it was about time!
We LOVE decorating for Halloween! Several years ago I made a ghost trick-or-treater. This year he has a friend, the headless horseman!
We are slowly adding to our lawn decor. Last year Shannon made a guillotine and I made heads. This year we got a skeleton and added some graves. Next year I'm hoping Shannon will make a torture stock and get a fog machine.
While Shannon was out trick-or-treating with the boys, I had a little excitement at the house. Shannon had lit some tea light candles and stuck them inside our artificial pumpkin head on our scarecrow. While handing out candy to a group of kids they commented on how cool the flames looked coming out of the scarecrow. I realized it was on fire and got some water to put it out, but it only made it worse. I dug the fire extinguisher out from under the kitchen sink and after pulling the pin, it took me a minute or so to figure out how to squeeze the trigger. Needless to say, I gave those trick-or-treaters a Halloween night they won't forget... seeing Princes Leia use a fire extinguisher on a flaming scarecrow!
