I had the opportunity to go to Monterey, California for the 4th of July. My brother Scott lives there while he is taking classes at the military language school. Next month he and his family will be relocating to Chile for 3 years. It was Scott's year to host the reunion, so he decided everyone should come see him before he left. We were going to make the trip as a family, but Shannon's back has been acting up and would not have survived the trip. It ended up being cheaper for me to fly anyways. I arrived on the 2nd and since no one else would arrive till the next evening, Jennifer (Scott's wife) and I spent the 3rd doing touristy things. We rode the trolley, walked around Cannery Row & Fisherman's Warf, bought some souvenirs, and had a yummy lunch downtown at Rosine's. It was fun to get some one-on-one time with Jennifer.
Late that night after my last sister Rebecca arrived, Scott's dog Maya got sprayed by a skunk.
We spent some time on 4th down at the beach in Carmel, CA. The weather was beautiful; warm and sunny. The water was freezing but that didn't keep the kids out!
The night before I left (the 5th), Scott and Jennifer took us out for dinner to Lalla's. It looked fancy, but was still affordable. I tried calamari for the first time. It wasn't too bad.
