This year for Father's Day we went camping to Redfish Lake with Shannon's brother's family; Shane, Corey, and Dallas, and Shannon's mom Ruth. We have about 6 nieces and nephews on Shannon's side but all but one are teenagers or older. Dallas is the only cousin the boys' age and they love doing things with him. We arrived up at the campground on Sunday and the boys immediately started riding their scooters while Dallas rode his bike. Around dinner time Dallas crashed really bad and scraped up his whole face and he couldn't remember what had happened. It was so bad that Shane and Corey decided to drive the hour to take him to the hospital in Ketchum. I got a text about two in the morning saying he had a concussion and they were keeping him over night for observation. They returned to camp the next afternoon and Dallas had 4 stitches in his lip and still no memory of the accident. Thank goodness he was wearing his helmet or it could have been a lot worse. He stayed in their camper most of the day (mainly because he didn't want anyone to see him), so Preston gave him one of the walkie-talkies so they could talk to each other.
The weather was beautiful the whole time we were there. The water was freezing as usual, and I was surprised at how brave the boys were.
Their Uncle Shane was really great helping the boys fish and they were both able to catch their first one! Of course, then we had to figure out how to cook it (I've never cooked a fish before). At one of the fishing spots there were a ton of butterflies around and Preston was more interested in catching them than fishing.
We have discovered our new favorite smore. Last year I saw a 'pin' where they put a mini-rolo inside a marshmallow and then roast them together. That was pretty good, but this year we smashed that in between 2 stripped shortbread cookies...can I just say, "YUMM!" We will be making these for years to come!
