1. Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey I LOVED this book. It just made sense to me. I may not agree with his methods completely, and I definitely am not willing to go to the extremes that he suggests, but the overall idea is awesome. I really like his cash envelope system. I don't use it for everything he suggests, but I do find that if I take out cash and separate it, I don't end up over spending in one area and then come up short in another, like eating out vs. clothes. I also really like his worksheets in the back of the book, especially his Allocated- Spending Plan. I made up my own plan based off of his that included all my needs/wants, and I use it with out fail every pay check. This plan makes you spend every penny on paper as soon as you get it. So since we live paycheck to paycheck, every time we get paid, I sit down and fill in my sheet. I have a calendar where I have listed when my bills are due, so I know which paycheck they have to come out of. I go down the spending plan, and subtract as I go. The plan is to get to 0 at the bottom. It's really cool to know exactly where all my money is going or where I need to make adjustments to come up with more money for an unexpected bill or an upcoming trip. You guys should really check it out, I wished I would have discovered it before I was ever married. (I just checked this book out from the library)
2. The Parenting Breakthrough by Merrilee Boyack This is a great book for knowing how to get your kids to work and be responsible. I actually bought this book so I can refer to it when I forget : ) It even tells you at what age your kids should be doing what types of chores or even how old they should be when they can make their own sandwiches and stuff like that...really cool.
3. Strangling Your Husband Is Not an Option by Merrillee Boyack This book is soooooo true! I'm always trying to find good books on relationships, because I'm a total slacker wife. This book is a fun read and very enlightening.
4. Parenting with Love and Logic The principles that are taught in this book are great! The whole goal of the book is to raise kids who are independent and can make good choices on their own. The school districts around here even teach this as an evening class for parents for a fee. I haven't attended it, but I have several friends who have and they have all loved it. I checked out the audio of it from the library and I listen to it while I do other things, like dishes, laundry, crafts, etc. It has been really helpful.
Love your book choices. :)
