In the rotation of the Daniels kids, I was the lucky one to host the family reunion this year. Instead of camping, I opted to hold it at my home. Since only half of my siblings have ever been to visit me in the 10+ years I have lived here, I didn't really think I would have that big of a turn out. But SURPRISE!!! Only three out of my 9 siblings were unable to attend. It was FABULOUS! Everyone arrived Friday afternoon, and once we got dinner in the crock pots, we headed over to the neighborhood park for food and games. For dinner I made Cafe Rio style dinner from the recipes I found here. It got rave reviews! : )
Afterwards, we divided into 3 groups and played some fun games which I found here. My favorite game to watch (since I was in charge) was called "Lights, Camera, Action!". The teams were given a scene to pose for, and then our judges would decide whose they liked best. Some of them were pretty creative!
Then, my brother Kent & his wife Kelsey headed up a paper airplane building/flying contest. There were a couple of cheaters in the midst.
Last, my sister Lorinda and her daughter Katelyn introduced us to the game "Ship to Shore", another fun game for all ages!
Once it got dark we headed back to the house for cake & ice cream. It was my sister-in-laws birthday Saturday, and I had a special request from my brother for an elephants butt cake. I was able to figure out how to do it and had some help decorating it. Apparently an elephants butt is just one of those things that Kelsey likes to doodle.
On Saturday after breakfast, we loaded up the vehicles and head out to Eagle Island State Park for some fun in the sun and water. The weather was perfect, and it was great to be able to hang out and chat with my brothers and sisters.
Unfortunately, most of them had to head back home that afternoon, and I was sad to say goodbye. We definitely need to increase the amount of days our reunions are held. I love my family so much and missed those that couldn't make it. I look forward to our reunions every year and all the other times we get together in between!
Here are a few family snapshots (some siblings took off before I could get their pictures).
